Diploma in Safeguarding

Join us in growing the network of safeguarders

This course is offered each year in the English language during the first semester (October to February).

This interdisciplinary and interactive five-month program forms advisors, officers, and trainers for the field of safeguarding.

Entre febrero y junio de 2021 este programa se ofrecerá en lengua española.

Program Description

The Diploma in Safeguarding is a multidisciplinary, academic program, intended for those who are going to professionally promote safeguarding in their home countries in a variety of areas. Students acquire specialized and interdisciplinary competencies within the field of safeguarding. They are asked to relate the content of the course to their own cultural realities and therefore learn to critically assess both.

Students learn the practical application of their newly gained competencies through a series of real-life tasks specific to their own cultural backgrounds. All successful graduates develop a comprehensive range of cognitive and practical skills, which allows them to solve the challenges they will encounter in their safeguarding activities and to deal with them in creative ways. This course fosters the growth of students’ abilities to effectively create change and implement preventative measures.

The diploma students come from all over the world. Some are religious or priests, others lay people. Our students have backgrounds in educational science, social work, psychology, theology, (canon) law, and related disciplines they can build on. Some hold a bachelor’s degree, others a master’s or doctoral degree. Some have had ample work experiences inside or outside the field of safeguarding. But they have at least one thing in common: determination to make the world a safer place for children and vulnerable adults – especially in church contexts.
